The Lion King at Temple Hoyne Buell Theatre

Disney’s The Lion King follows the life of the little lion cub Simba, who before long has no choice but to accept his fate of becoming the King of the Pride Lands due to the tragedy that befalls his father, Mufasa. Mufasa, who is a supported King by the people of his lands, suffers betrayal from from Scar, Simba’s uncle, which ends in his murder. This forces the lion cub into into exile for years, and jumpstarts Simba's coming-of-age story and his sudden return to The Pride Lands and his rightful place as King.

Taken from the previous 1994 film of the the very same title produced by Disney, The play, The Lion King was skillfully transformed to the Broadway medium by director Julie Taymor and the unbelievable ensemble and production crew. It was full of color and the song and dance acts were phenomenal. The costumes and masks really carried the characters to life.” Most audiences who have watched the performances over the past 20 years can attest that despite being a second retelling of a motion picture, the musical went above and beyond the original.
