Greg Evans of Variety summarizes the Broadway premiere with unequivocal opinions in his posting, stating that “Julie Taymor's direction of Disney's The Lion King is a marvel, a successful adaptation unequaled in its beauty, brains and ingenuity. As courageous and daring as Simba himself, the stage version enhances on each and every component of the classic 90s cartoon movie, from color and vibrancy and plot to Lebo M's compositions and the freshly Africanized original songs of Elton John and Tim Rice."
