The Lion King at Temple Hoyne Buell Theatre

Ranked currently as the third of Broadway’s longest-running productions of all time, The Lion King has brought the 1994 original film to life with numerous productions that have performed in not just many locations in the U.S., but also South America, Europe, and Asia among others. On November, The Lion King adds one other to its list of productions as The Lion King musical will be touring in Temple Hoyne Buell Theatre at Denver on Thursday 6th November 2025!

Disney's The Lion King, since its first production and move to the theater stage in 1997, has changed the landscape of Broadway and theater entirely. With a classic tale brought to life on stage with the distinct usage of life-sized puppetry of animals and an African-inspired music list and compositions, the Broadway show was regarded as an epic shock to both lovers of the original movie as well as completely recent theatergoers.

Leveling up from a very inspired creation, The Lion King is also certainly one of the most applauded plays in each award season the musical was included in. In quick fashion after its premiere, the musical was nominated for over 20 awards, winning 6 Tony awards at the time which includes Best Musical, Best Scenic Design (by Richard Hudson), Best Choreography (by Garth Fagan), Best Lighting Design (by Donald Holder), Best Direction of a Musical and Best Costume Design (by Julie Taymor). The award bestowed for Best Direction of a Musical is considered important, as Julie Taymor is the first female director to ever be presented with the award.

Over the next two decades, the Broadway hit continued to take all the awards and commendations with again over 70 major theater awards and nominations conferred. In the show's several seasons and productions all over the world, it has been presented awards by a great many institutions which includes the NY Drama Critics Circle, The Grammys, the Laurence Olivier Awards, the Molière Awards, and the Helpmann Awards.
