Synopsis
Shucked takes place in the fictional farming town of Cob County. There is a thick wall of corn which surrounds the town. The tale follows Maizy, an innocent farm girl, and Beau, a no-nonsense farm boy, as they’re about to get married in Cob County. But when the corn starts to fail, the townspeople demand answers. Their wedding is put on hold until the problem is solved. With the helping hand of an unlikely hero, a shady con man, and a battle for both the heart and soil of Cob County, can the town rescue their crop and the wedding? The production was met with glowing reviews, applauded for its clever jokes and heartfelt country-inspired score, as well as an award-winning creative team! The musical comedy transferred to Broadway at the Nederlander Theatre, with previews starting in March 2023. Shucked won huge at the 76th Tony Awards, earning an impressive nine nominations. Alex Newell won Best Featured Actor in a Musical. Shucked also did well at the coveted Drama Desk Awards, with Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally snagging Outstanding Music, and Alex Newell taking home Outstanding Featured Performance in a Musical.
Shucked had its final show on Broadway in January 2024 after 327 incredible performances. It then went on to launch a 30-city North American tour in the fall of 2024. Review
“Drop everything and go see Shucked while you can. It’s hilarious, heartfelt and (forgive me) ear-resistable, a truly cream-of-the-crop show and proof that American musical theater is still capable of winsome, surprising and original works. As the puns fly fast and furious and the impressive musical numbers keep coming, you’ll find yourself charmed by its uncomplicated (and honestly, kind of predictable) but perfectly delightful plot and the camaraderie and kinship forged on stage as we watch. The show accomplishes what so many others of its ilk often find next to impossible to do: delivering a well-written, solid plot and believable stakes alongside strong musical numbers that develop character and advance the plot. We get introduced to Cob County and its residents, understand the crux of the challenge at hand and are on our way to Tampa and back all within the show’s first five numbers, and the economy of storytelling is both appreciated and expertly done.”
