SYNOPSIS
From the subterranean labyrinth underneath the Paris Opera House, the Phantom – a romantic, a stalker, a lover, a kidnapper, a musical and architectural genius, and a murderer, falls in love – and in obsession – with the beautiful up-and-coming soprano, Christine Daaé. A childhood love interest re-enters her life after he recognizes her on stage, which is deeply unsettling to the Phantom. This results in high drama, unexpected plot twists and turns that leaves the Paris Opera House with massive challenges, lovers with broken hearts, and audiences with their jaws on the floor.
“The production is extraordinary.” – Ben West
CREATIVE TEAM AND CAST
The latest revival of The Phantom Of The Opera, hot off Broadway and heading to various theatres across North America, has been masterfully shaped by the accomplished hands of director Seth Sklar-Heyn, alongside the talents of musical supervisor Kristen Blodgette, choreographer Chrissie Cartwright, set and image designer Matt Kinley, costume designer Jill Parker, lighting designer Andrew Bridge, and sound designer Mick Potter. Audiences can expect the breathtaking Isaiah Bailey in the role of the Phantom, the incredibly talented Jordan Lee Gilbert as Christine, and Daniel Lopez as Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny.
“Andrew Lloyd Webber’s monster hit has all the subtlety of a plunging chandelier, but it will soothe and transport you.” – The Guardian

HISTORY AND LEGACY
What started as a proposal by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber to co-producer Cameron Mackintosh in 1984 to develop a new musical with a tragic, yet romantic theme, based on Gaston Leroux’s novel, The Phantom Of The Opera, catapulted into worldwide success after its haunting melodies, power-orchestration, and general theatrical ingenuity hit the stage at Her Majesty’s Theatre in 1986. With memorable lyrics by Richard Stilgoe and Charles Hart; Andrew Lloyd Webber’s timeless opera-meets-musical score with nods to the grand operas of Meyerbeer and Mozart, and even the works of Gilbert and Sullivan; Maria Björnson’s incredible set and costume design, including the iconic chandelier, subterranean gondola, and sweeping staircase of Masquerade; Hal Prince’s groundbreaking direction; and Gillian Lynne’s superb choreography, The Phantom Of The Opera featuring Michael Crawford as the Phantom, Sarah Brightman as Christine, and Steve Barton as Raoul, was a raging success.
The original London production landed no less than an Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Musical and four Laurence Olivier Awards. The original Broadway production, opening at the Majestic Theatre in 1988, racked up seven Tony Awards, seven Drama Desk Awards, and five Outer Critics Circle Awards. The Phantom Of The Opera is the longest running show in Broadway history, second-longest running West End production, second-most financially successful event in the world, and with its regular revivals, has been experienced live by over 140 million theatregoers in over 41 countries.
The Phantom Of The Opera has also been adapted for film in 2004 by director Joel Schumacher, featuring Gerard Butler as the Phantom, Emmy Rossum as Christine, and Patrick Wilson as Raoul.
“Webber at his best – from the melodramatic overture with its thrilling organ chords, to the seductive ‘Music Of The Night’ and yearning ‘All I Ask Of You’… the sheer theatrical verve is also immensely satisfying.” – Aleks Sierz
