Brett Goldstein is a British actor, comedian, podcaster, and writer. He is best-known for his role as Roy Kent in the Apple TV+ comedy series, Ted Lasso. The show has won plaudits from critics, who have lauded it especially for its performances, humor, writing, topics, and upbeat tone. Its first season received numerous honors, including 20 Primetime Emmy nominations, making it the most nominated first-season comedy in Emmy Award history. For his role in the show, Goldstein won two Emmy Awards for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.”

He said in an interview with People that he always knew he wanted to be an entertainer. In addition to his achievements, Goldstein has said that his superhero rom-com short SuperBob, which was later made into a feature, helped him break into the entertainment industry. In May 2021, he stated to Awards Radar, "Ricky Gervais saw that. And that is why I got brought in to audition for Derek. And then, once I did Derek, it was a bit easier."

His role on Ted Lasso didn’t start as Roy Kent. He was originally hired as one of the show’s writers. However, he was motivated by his similarities to Roy Kent and decided to self-tape five scenes and submit an unsolicited audition. One of those sequences may have helped him earn the position.

"My personal favourite is the scene where Roy is in the car park in episode 5 and is behind Keeley [Juno Temple] and accidentally scares her by her car. I think that may have been the one that sealed the deal," Goldstein told People. "That or [co-creators Joe Kelley and Jason Sudeikis] couldn't be bothered to keep looking."

In his spare time, Goldstein has also been working on his podcast “Films to be Buried With.” The podcast has featured cast members from Ted Lasso, including Waddingham, Dunster, Jimoh, Nick Mohammed, Brendan Hunt and season 2 writer Ashley Nicole Black.

This year, he is going on a trek across the nation and kicking off the momentous tour with an opening night at the Buell Theatre in Denver, Colorado on Thursday, the 5th of October, 2023! Be one of the first people to witness Goldstein’s brand-new stand-up routine and have the best night of your lives at this show.
